Born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, Maksim Goldenshteyn moved to the United States with his family in 1992. He grew up in the suburbs of Seattle, where a few thousand Russian-speaking Jewish refugees from the former Soviet Union resettled.

Maksim has written for a variety of Seattle-area newspapers including The Seattle Times. In 2022, he published a family memoir and history of the Holocaust in Ukraine called So They Remember (University of Oklahoma Press, 2022).

He lives in Seattle with his family.
